What’s in the School Improvement Bond: Murphy Elementary

Over the next couple weeks, we will look at each school facility in the District and focus on the facility needs that would be addressed with the 2022 Zero-Tax-Increase School Improvement Bond, what we call our “Nuts and Bolts” Plan.

We started with our elementary schools. Next up, Murphy Elementary!

As you can see, there are several items slated for Murphy that are also earmarked for our other elementary buildings. Murphy is one of three elementary buildings in the District that does not have separate cafeteria and gym space (Lynch is the exception), and that would be addressed with a new multi-purpose addition.

In addition, there are also site improvement funds set aside for the Murphy playground, which is long overdue for a makeover, and the main bathrooms.

As we have discussed in the past, this zero-tax-increase school improvement bond addresses long-overdue needs across the District, but by no means all of our needs. Because we have a clear directive from the community to not raise taxes, we had to create a list of projects within strict financial parameters.

In this case, we know that there are other needs at Murphy that are not addressed here. Fortunately, were the bond to pass, some general fund money could be freed up for future improvement projects.
